Falling Down On the Job!

I promised that I would be sending photos of all the festivities, the altars, the calacas, but, except for my weak attempt yesterday to upload a video, nada.

I apologize.  I had every intention.

Friday morning was to be the first day of my documenting all the stuff.  It went awry early on when Ron of Ron and Fred called -- locked out of his house.  So, off I drove to take keys to him to get back in........

Now I'm running behind, so I'm moving fast.  I get home.  One of the big things to get done, first off, was to get the electric blanket on the bed.  It has been in the high 30's at night, already.  Brrr.  I put the blanket under the mattress cover and the bottom sheet.  It's quite a production to get all that off and then back on with the blanket in there too.

Okay, mission accomplished.  NOW I can leave.  I had purse in hand, turned to head upstairs and voila,
I ended up on the floor.  I ended up on the floor right after I hit my head on a piece of furniture and my right knee hit the tile floor with a thud. Uh oh.  I just didn't move.  Let the pain subside for a few minutes.

Then I looked to see why I had fallen.  My foot had gotten caught in the electric blanket cord that was dangling near the floor and the rug.  DRAT.  (It is now safely tucked away)

I know the drill.  Get the ice out of the freezer.  Or in this case, a bag of broccoli, frozen.  It's much easier then a bag of ice cubes.

This time the knot on my head was on my forehead near the hairline.  At least I wouldn't end up with another black eye..........blessings.  At least it was my right knee.  Not the bad left one.  I always look for the positive things.

Needless to say, with my right knee twice as big as the left, I was not going to be walking anywhere for very long on Friday.

The kids, with their Dad came by for something or other.  There I was, on the chaise with broccoli on my knee and a quilt over me.  A true Grammy, ha.  Nope, I didn't offer to cook or anything else.  Just stayed where I was.

When I awoke on Saturday, thinking I would be well enough to get out, I felt like I had been in a car accident.  Needless to say, I never left home, again.  In fact I thought I might spend the day in bed.

Something I do about once every ten years.......Well, I could make a silly comment, but use your imagination.

The Universe had another plan though.  Rather then spend the day in bed, Matilda came to visit while Sebastian went to get his stitches removed from his neck.

We baked banana bread.  We watered the plants.  Then we sat down, thankfully, and she showed me how well she can add her numbers.  She's in the first grade.  Wow, she got up in the 140's.  That was so much fun.

Then the whirling dervish arrived, Sebastian.  Everyone ate stew and cornbread I had made earlier in the week..........They played.  Rode their bikes and along with Scout, the relatively new dog, left.

Somewhere around 3:30PM, I did take a siesta, with the electric blanket turned on.  Aaahh.

I've missed all the festivities!  I did see some on the webcam in the jardin.  There is always next year.

I AM off to delicately walk up a few stairs to have lunch with a group of wonderful women who are in town from Atlanta, Ga.  Looking so forward to seeing all of them.

Tomorrow I intend to go through my boxes of photos from the old days of Dia de los Muertos to post them for ya'll.  Some treasures in those boxes.

Hopefully!

I am so sorry for your fall and that feeling turned right into ( almost ) happiness, because you did not suffer major consequences.
I lost two friends over the last almost three years to falls. Both broke their hip and one developed pneumonia after a couple of weeks in bed. The other also hit her head on the way down. A complicated hip fracture called all her doctors attentions and no one discovered a slow bleed in her brain, until it was too late.
One of my biggest fears ( since I live alone ) is taking a bad fall, but right now I am really glad that you are relatively fine. Take very good care of yourself, or allow others to do so.
Wish you lived closer.....I made real Spanish Lentil Stew ( it's cold over night here also ) and baked my first trial-run batch of the Christmas Biscotti I bake for myself each year, just with a different flavor. I would love to share !

Thanks Barbara and Peter - If I don't slow down, the Universe has a way of making me slow down!

Thanks for your comments. I appreciate them more then you could imagine.

Droelma - How thoughtful of you. I too, living alone fear falling down the stairs and not being able to get to the phone. So, I carry my cell phone in my pocket - if I have one.
The stew sounds wonderful! You're in DF right? If and when I get down there next time, perhaps we could meet up for hot chocolate or coffee or something......Thanks so much for taking time to write.

Glad you are doing ok, not going to say fine, because that takes a few days or weeks to get back to normal.
Well at least now I know i am not the only one that falls down from time to time, seems to be getting more often though.

Thanks Tancho. I thought I was doing pretty good this year. As far as I can remember, this is the first time! The last bad fall was on Christmas Eve day. A record for me. I know I need to slow down.
Glad to know I'm not alone in this falling stuff!
We're not old enough for this, are we?

Be careful Barbara! We do not bounce as well as we did a few years ago and owies take longer to heal! Get well.

I would love to meet you and wished I had had the guts to invite you when you come down to " CDMX ". At a city wide meeting I found out last week that this is the officially PC short was for Ciudad de Mexico. I was surprised that PC stuff has come to Mexico now, well at least to CDMX....lol.
I never did, because even though my contact with San Miguel is from the 80's yet, I've read your blog for years, but my active contribution to your blog is just a few month old . I did not want for you to think I had " intenciones turbios " ( shady or not-so-clear intentions).
This year still it would be difficult, because as of tomorrow I want to stick 8 weeks of work into the next 6 weeks, then have fours days for getting everything together, present this part of the project on 12/19 have a combined holiday and birthday party and be off on vacation on the same day.
If I can get a plane ticket over the weekend, or any time including the 25th for a price I can afford, I'll go to Mazunte, if not I'll stay at home. I can't imagine you traveling within Mexico during the holidays and would make every effort to meet you any time after the New Year, because I am " metiche " in that way.

Your fall count is starting to match my goods stolen (or lost) count. You will make me feel a lot better if you let me win this particular competition.

I am pleased that you are coping -- even though I suspect you are putting on a very brave face for what could have been a quite nasty fall. If I had been in the casita, I would gladly have fetched a take-out of chicken soup for you.

Get well. We have decorating ideas to discuss.

Thanks Croft! You speak with wisdom. I certainly don't bounce back as fast as I used to.....I WILL be more careful, except these things seem to happen so fast.

Babs said...

Steve, let's have a moratorium. No more losses for you - no more falls for me!
Sweet of you to offer chicken soup - it does cure everything!
I AM going to get well so I can get out of the cold of SMA and get to the beach, for sure. I need to call Eva about the Bungalows, this coming week so I can be over there for the month of January, if not before!

Thanks Droelma. We will meet when the time is right. Both of us have to take care of stuff..........hope you get to your place down on the coast soon. It looks wonderful!
Enjoy.

You be careful!! I'm just glad that you are on the mend with only bruises and bumps. Take it easy this week. I see that the weather forecast is calling for a lot of rain this week in San Miguel... sounds like a good time to do a whole lot of nothing!

Babs said...

Thanks Bill. I intend to do just that and work on a quilt that I've been trying to find time to work on.
Gosh, rain? I thought our rainy season is over.......
We all adjust, whatever the weather as long as its not snow! ha.

And snow is what they are getting north of the border. I hear that there was snow as far south as South Carolina. The wintry weather sort of went around Ohio though. But I'm still happy to have made an escape to Mexico City!

Oh, my! Scary to have a fall like this. It's so important to tuck cords away, and have rugs that don't slip, etc. I used to be sure of that stuff for my mom...now I do it for me :)
Take it easy.

¡Oye! ¡Barbara!

I'm so sorry to hear about your fall. Sheesh... just when you had planned to do a bunch of fun stuff too.

I fell off my bike almost 2 weeks ago, and did something nasty to my left ring finger (stretched a tendon or something) and it's goign to be healing up for a while, so I feel your pain.

Get well soon!!!

Saludos y abrazos,

Where soon enough there'll be ice to watch out for. Ugh.

Babs said...

Oye is right Kim. I know your finger hurt bad - fingers and toes hurt the worst! Take care and I can't imagine riding a bike on ice!
DON'T...........

Angelinem, I need to slow down and be more careful. Slowing down is the main point!

Thanks for writing.
