A Rough Road

On January 23rd while sitting in a palapa restaurant in La Manzanilla, a woman and her husband sat at the table next to me.  As she sat down she commented about the fact that it was nice to finally be out of bed after being sick for so long.  Then she coughed.

My impulse was to get up and move, but I did not want to be rude.  Now I wish I had done so.

Five days later, in the middle of the night, I was awakened with a racking cough that did not stop for
six days.  No sleep.  No relief.  Acute bronchitis.

It has been a rough road though hopefully I'm on the road to recovery and the road home to San Miguel in the next few days.  I'm too weak to drive so a driver is coming from San Miguel to take
me home.

Not the way I expected to end an escape to Paradise.

I've received many inquiries about whether all is well or not.  Obviously not.  But, this too shall pass.

More on down the road when I'm back in San Miguel and stronger and able to post photos and recollections.

Stay tuned.

When it's a matter of your health, you should be rude. Whether it's moving away from sick people or refusing to accept abrazos, besos and handshakes from anyone who's sniffling, just do it. Better to be rude than bedridden.

I don't think it would be rude to simply get up and move, when the person coughed.

But whether you caught it then or at another time, I'm sorry it laid you so low and hope you make a quick recovery now that you're home.

I was wondering why we had not heard from you. So sorry you have had the crud. Everything is better when you are in your own bed.

I avoid parties and group events in my neighborhood because no one wants to miss anything. They show up and think nothing of kissing and hugging you before you can get away. I swear the same horrid illness that knocked me down for 3 months summer before last is still circulating! Get well soon!

Babs, I too had this bronchitis here in California. The germs are everywhere and can't be avoided. Sometimes we are lucky to not get the infection and it gets us the next.
They gave me an antibiotic and anti inflamitory shot at Urgent Care and a bottle of antibiotics to take home. I've never coughed so much in my life and thought my head would blowup. I'm fine now and you should be soon.
Take care -

Sorry to hear that Babs, not a good way to spend your vacation! More and more I find ourselves sitting away from crowds especially when we see small kids that are running around with questionable health ( runny noses ) touching stuff in restaurants.
Prevention....
Hope you fell and get better fast.

Well shoot. Meanwhile pamper yourself in any way that sounds delicious and as Billie said - everything is better when you're in your own bed and home. Hope the cooties don't follow you all the way to San Miguel. Have a safe trip and I hope you're well on your way to feeling your old self.

As always good advice from Ms. Red Shoes - Anita is better at shunning the sick than me - she pulls no punches retreating from the visibly ill.

Get well soon amiga!

I am so sorry to hear that you have been sick... not a great way to spend your beach vacation. I was just telling Kim ("Gringo Suelto") yesterday that I was concerned because you had not posted anything for so long.
There seems to be plenty of bugs going around in Mexico City too. I had a mild cold, Kim is getting over one, Alejandro had a touch of something, and now his nephew and mother both have throat infections.
Hope that you completely recover soon, and in the meantime, take good care of yourself!!
Saludos,
Bill

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I had thought I was heading back tomorrow but the driver from SMA has disappeared and so now I'll need to wait til I'm strong enough to drive myself back home. Hopefully by the end of the week! One day at a time..............

Rick, to say I had third world care would be an understatment. I think if I had been in SMA, I would be better by now, but who knows..........I definnitely am so sorry you had this same plaque! take care.

Hola Barbara!

I think I had the same thing. I'm "over the hump," but still coughing. Thank god my nose stopped running, though. I went through an entire box of Kleenex in 24 hours. Haven't done that in a long time. And my landlord had the same thing. I haven't taken anything, but he did, and recovered fairly quickly.

I hope you get better fast!

I'm glad that your current illness seems to be simply a form of the flu or the "crud". It's that time of year and the actual place of infection can be pretty much anywhere given how quickly these things can spread.

Hope you are well soon!

Kim, go get an antibiotic shot. That seems to keep this stuff from not being so bad if you do it right away. Unfortunately I did not and am still hacking after 14 days. It seems thee are lots of people with this...........Take care

I don't think moving would have been rude at all. You have the right to maintain your health. What do you think someone with cancer would do? Even if you don't have cancer, it is still always your right to guard your health. I would've worn a face mask and hand sanitized my hands after changing tables.
