Retiring in Mexico? And San Miguel de Allende in Particular?

Several things have happened in the last couple of weeks that have caused me to make a decision.

First of all, I've gotten many requests for information on income requirements for visas; how to get furniture to Mexico; what about health insurance; and a myriad of other topics.

Then today while looking over statistics on readership of specific blogs, I saw that over 4500 people have read the two blogs on the cost of living in San Miguel!  Geez............

With those things having happened, I've decided to write a series of posts over the next few days on the things that seem pertinent for people to know.  I want everyone to know that it is a wonderful life, but, it isn't always a bed of roses.  Many things to take into consideration and again many things to know PRIOR to making the move.

Stay tuned!

The photos above were taken on Friday of the new fall plantings in the jardin.

Oh this is wonderful! But then so are you, so we're not surprised. : )

Two questions we've never found a clear answer to, and would love to know:

Can you move your furniture/ household down immediately upon renting a place, before you have a permanent resident visa (or even if you know you won't ever qualify, and just will continue to renew the temporary)?

Under the new laws can you continue to renew the temporary for years to come?

Thank you SO much! Not only does the information matter, the source is critical - and you are a great one.

I agree that the source is crucial, and you are a great source. However, don't you think that all this information will change? It seems to me that Mexico is changing very rapidly. Also, isn't San Miguel a little different from the rest of Mexico just by virtue of the large number of people from El Norte?

Christine - Some things change. Like when Mega and Bodega Aurerrea opened giving us more choices for groceries. INM, immigration changed last year but it was the first time in eons. Aduana (Banjercito) relating to cars changed last year, sort of, but again, first time in eons.
There really aren't that many more gringos in SMA then in say, Mexico City, Guadalajara area or PV. Actually, full time, we have about 3500 contrary to what the realtors say..........That's out of a total area population of !80,000~!

I hope I can give you the info you are searching for, Peter and Dean.

I will also refer you to those who have done much research for their sites to become your "go tos".

You go girl - some that read our Blogs have heard it all before - but between the fluidity of the facts and the addition of readers this must continue to be addressed - I mean it is part and parcel to why we are here - no?
