B.O.I.

Ask just about anyone in the Houston area what "BOI" means and they will say - "born on the island" - meaning Galveston. Those that were, are very proud of that fact. It means a hardy, funky and gracious soul - kinda like a pirate. I'm kidding about the pirate. But there were pirates here a while back.........

Nowadays they are called construction workers. They are here in droves trying to put the island and people's lives back together, slowly but surely. I drove in Tuesday and was amazed at how much had been done just since the 22nd of April when I last arrived. More piles of debris cleared. Driveways poured and grass planted.

Now my friends Vandy and Sue are starting on the rebuilding of their place. We went by yesterday to see if any workers were there yet - nada. We talked about space planning issues and furniture placement etc. I have to make sure the guest bedroom is perfect.......my domain.

Vandy is a "BOI" and his family's history here goes way back. Sue moved here as a little child and can't claim that status, but she proudly claims being married to a "BOI". I think it's all very cute and innocent.

The sky is blue, didn't see a soul today as I walked the beach. Only a few birds looking for breakfast. Yesterday we saw (well Vandy saw) a baby dolphin in the shallows. I hope I see a pod this afternoon. I'll be sad to leave here tomorrow and head back to civilization. I can assure you that being at the water has changed my perspective of where I intend to live in the future, dramatically.

I'm at a crossroads in many ways. My life is getting ready to change in many positive ways and when the time is right............I'll share it with you, my friends. It's all good!

Dear Barbara,

I am so happy you are having a wonderful time. I always enjoy going to Galveston. It is my home away from home which you know is Houston. I have been going to the beach for the last 5 weekends. I can not get enough of the sand, the water and the Sun. And since Ike, I have come to really appreciate the people, the place and the beauty of Galveston. We, the people of Houston and Galveston all seem to have the same goal and that is to put it back togeather and make it better than it was before because we seem to apprecite it more since the Hurricane and the damage Ike left. AS for you my dear Barbara, I wish only the best for you and as long as you are happy, go for whatever you want in life. Do not let anything or anybody stop you. Positive change is always good and if it makes you happy, than go for it...have a safe trip back home to SMA.

Well Calypso, I AM happy and excited. Fillled with anticipation too. Like I said, it's alllllll good. Water will definitely be a big part of my life in the future - NO not drinking it........Sorry to keep it a "cliff hanger" but the last time I jumped the gun and told things before I should have - caution, which is not one of my best traits has taken over these days........
