"To infinity and beyond"

I heard these words this morning at 9AM from a male voice, in the distance, as I turned onto Shepherd with Hannah, grandchild #3 next to me. I turned to her and said, "Who said that?" and she replied Buzz Lightyear! Oh yeah, we had bought that yesterday as a belated birthday present for Andrew, her twin brother. She and I giggled each time Buzz said such an important thing as we drove north to Kingwood - it happened when we hit bumps.......we looked for bumps. Can you tell the "inner child" in me has been let loose now that I'm surrounded by grandkids? It's never far from the surface.........

So we arrived in Kingwood to morose faces. There had been a death last night - one of the hamsters, I think its name was Sugar Baby, had been captured briefly by Chip the Cat. A screaming race ensued (sooooooooo glad I missed that) but alas, too late. The hamster was sealed with staples in a small box with pictures of the family and food for the journey "to infinity". Sugar Baby belonged to the youngest of the family, Emma, and it was a SERIOUS thing.

While I was there today the whole family, all six of them, trekked to Pets Mart to find a "near relative" of the remaining hamster, so it wouldn't be lonely. I opted out of that trip.

As I was leaving, there was a shovel in the backyard and all were assembled, except me, for the burial. I cry at weddings and funerals so I thought it best that I NOT participate. Sugar Baby has gone to "Infinity and Beyond"............

When I was 5 or so, I read a book entitled Amigo. It was about a circus horse. But the part I remember to this day was the death of a parakeet and the ensuing child-centric funeral. I adapted that scentio for the death of each of our pets -- and added something new for every ceremony. Our mother finally intervened when my brother and decided that a dog needed a viking funeral. Our death ceremonies tended far more to the theatric, rather than the sentimental.

Awwww.www... sorry about Sugar Baby but glad there is another to become a companion.
And Steve...I would go for the drama vikings and all.

I remember the Buzz and Infinity stage well with our boys. We were able to actually spring into some decent mathematical discussions - the whole infinity thing - we are math geeks to the end ...

On occasion we still get a To Infinity and Beyond!

It is interesting how different children are in Mexico about death of their pets - they seem to accept death without question - of course much of it is induced from lack of care - The U.S. gets a check in the better column on that one - at the same time it is hard to see the hurt our children experience from losing a pet.

I'm still grieving over the salesperson that was trampled at the Friday sale at Walmart and the deaths of those two idiots having a gun fight at Toy's R Us (well not so much for them). In the mean time, the U.S. gov. is issuing warnings about the dangers across the border in Mexico - hmmmm.
