It Takes A Village

Many years ago, fifteen to be exact, I learned that when something is so big as cancer, one person cannot take care of all aspects of it for their family.

About a month ago, after eight months of going to one doctor after another, my daughter was finally diagnosed with thyroid cancer.  The saga began with her eyes crossing!  So, of course, she went to eye specialists.  One doctor finally said that he could straighten her eye but she needed to find out the cause.

That began a pilgrimage from one specialist to another.  For Jewels it was beyond frustrating and frightening.
When she finally got a diagnosis it was a relief in a way.  Then she and the appropriate doctors could do
something about it.

Today that journey begins.  Julie, who likes to be called Jewels, (and she is a jewel) is at MD Anderson for the preliminary procedures to prepare for surgery and whatever else it entails.  Her husband and four children are great and supportive.  However, it never hurts to have moral support and positive energy
flowing.

So I ask you, as you go about your daily activities for the next few months, to remember Julie and her family and send positive energy and prayers, if you wish.  It will be greatly appreciated.

I'll be heading up soon to be there to fulfill whatever role I can to be of help...........We, as a family, have been down this road before and know that coming together is the way to care for Julie at this time.

Gracias.

Oh, so sorry to hear this, but VERY glad that she's at the best cancer center in the country and has lots of love and support surrounding her.

Cancer is a pretty cruel hand of cards, but I'm convinced that it can also be an opportunity for new and strengthened relationships as well-- life experiences that might never had been possible otherwise.

Prayers and well-wishes to Julie, you, and the family to make this a most comfortable (and meaningful) time.

Being a two-time survivor I KNOW the power of prayer and positive thinking. Healing illness is as much if not more mental work as it is physical. Positive thinking is SO important (and sometimes so difficult when we feel icky from treatment, etc.).

I commit to holding Jewels in thought and prayer until the day I read here that she's ALL CLEAR!

I can be done, it WILL be done. You are absolutely correct that knowledge is power. And she's got such a fabulous team at MD Anderson. They're the best.

Every person praying squares the energy - with your permission I will have perpetual prayers said for her through Unity's Silent Prayer service. They will pray round the clock for 30 days, at which time I will request the service again until she is healed.

Bless you all. God said it came to pass, He didn't say it came to stay.

Barbara

Barbara Lane - Thanks for your insight and actions. When I did attend church it was Unity in Houston. The intensity of all that was done for our family was beyond amazing......too numerous to talk about now.
Go forth and pray. I truly believe positive energy is amazing as well.

As a follower of your blog, I vicariously smell your flowers, walk the streets of San Miguel, stroke your house cat, and I now feel your anguish. From El Campo, Tx and Merida, Yuc I will be praying for you, your daughter and her family. It especially touches me as our family stood by my father during his bout with thyroid cancer. May the experts at MD Anderson, along with the grace of God, heal your daughter.

I will be sending positive, healing thoughts and prayers for your daughter, you, your family. Although we've not met, I live in Guadalupe - if there is anything needed here while you're in the USA I would be happy to assist. I know you have many friends.

Your words are healing in and of themselves. Jewels is aware of your thoughts and prayers!

Thanks Dana and Shannon. From all the information I've received in private emails from long-time readers, I'm convinced that this will be taken care of by the hospital soon and with excellent results.
It has been like a village in the last 24 hours. All the information from people who have had and overcome this has been amazingly helpful.
All you readers and friends ROCK! You enrich my life and my families more then you could ever imagine! Thanks.
