Everyone from West Texas always talks about the legendary Dust Storms. All my life I've heard those stories. I couldn't relate. At least not until this week. We've had two this week in Mexico. Of epic proportions.
The wind storm last night was so strong that I was afraid the oyamel (fir) tree was going to break. Even the cat had her ears up, watching.
Winds were gusting near 40 MPH. I stood at the bank of windows in the living room watching the dust gather and start to head this way. It was obscuring the sky, the mountain range and the sun. Eeery.........I was transfixed by the sight until I realized all the windows and doors were open.
I sprang into action by closing everything. Tightly. Closing everything helped. Not totally. Today there is a thin layer of grit everywhere. YUK!
Lordy, I hope the locusts don't come next...........
Never once did I pray for rain while living in the tropical Gulf Coast of Texas. It wasn't necessary. Here I've learned to look forward, with gusto, to the rainy season.
All I can say is "BRING IT ON". June can't come soon enough.

Hang damp towels or sheets in the windows to slow down the dust infiltration. i learned to do that when I lived in western Kansas in the early '70s. Made the air a lot easier to breathe.
I am so accustomed to dust here, that I think anything less than an inch on the kitchen counter is a good day.
We've already had a couple of dirt storms this year and it's not even the monsoon season. Here in Arizona, they call them haboobs and they come with the monsoonal storms. The furious wind and dirt come before the rain. Definitely get the windows closed! We still get fine layers of dirt all over the windowsills through the weep holes. It's a mess!
Believe it or not - it's TRUE - it is lightning, it is thundering, it is hailing and it is raining! HARD!
OMG, I'm ready to go out and dance in the rain.........yee ha.
It's been raining for about ten minutes - not itty bitty drops, big gobs of drops. Can you tell I'm ecstatic.........
The good thing is that your wind did not make it down to my area. Regarding the rain, it is giving hints that it will start early this year, a mixed blessing because I'll have to hire a gardener before June.
How one suffers.
This rain you're getting may be a fluke. It happens. It sprinkled some here today too.

It's five hours later and still thundering, lightning and raining! Amazing. It's a soft steady rain. GREAT for the plants, and the trees I had trimmed today and my psyche....
Typical - I cut the grass, edged, and trimmed the yards with the weed-whacker - then blew the debris into a nice pile to pick it up. Shouldn't have bothered.. The tornado that passed by here this afternoon, sucked up all the loose debris, half the leaves on the trees, and a few olde oaks and deposited them a mile away. Mama Nature really seems to like SMA better!
Cheers!
