Travel & Leisure Top Ten World's Best Cities
Woo hoo! I know that I live in a very special place. I knew it when I made the decision to move here after having traveled all over Mexico. BUT I didn't know the rest of the world knew it too.
Imagine my surprise and delight today to read that San Miguel de Allende was listed as Number Four in the Top Ten Cities of the World.
In order they are: (1) Bangkok (2) Chang Mai, Thailand (3) Florence (4) SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE, MEXICO (5) Rome (6) Sydney (7) Buenos Aires (8) OAXACA, MEXICO (9) Barcelona (10) New York City
Interestingly, about eight years ago several couples left San Miguel and moved to Chang Mai. At that point I had never heard of it. Maybe I need to add it to my "must see" list.
How many of the Top Ten have you visited? I've only been to three.
The issue of Travel and Leisure also has a list of the top cities in the USA and Canada among other things. Pick up a copy if you're interested in reading more.
Congratulations to San Miguel de Allende. A much deserved rating.

Oooh, now there will be in hordes of people moving in, buying up properties, jacking up rents....
Glad that the attention will be drawn away from my little burg.
China? 25 years ago I would have laughed at that notion. Now I am curious. Maybe I can talk one of my business partners into going there with me. She is Chinese and can babble with the best of them!
You are lucky, SMA indeed is a neat place, just a tad too warm for me, I like my forests....
You have been found out Amiga - hope it is a good thing.
I want to visit one day. Lovely place it seems. Why isn't Tegucigalpa on the list? We lead in so many things... coups. conspiracies, journalists murdered, epidemics, tsk tsk. We SHOULD be number 11 at least.
5. With 2 on my list this year. Including SMA.
It's great to here that I've been photographing one of the best cities in the world. What was the source
Hey, I´ve been to three too. My wife has been to four.
Not to diss your new town, dear heart, but this list strikes me as very strange. Buenos Aires, New York City, Bangkok and San Miguel?! What on earth could justify these places being on some common list? I don´t get it.
But I do enjoy visiting San Miguel on occasion. Food and shopping.
Hey, you´ve got three spams (at this moment) on your comment list. Delete!
Three spams, and you moderate comments?? Hint: If the person leaving the comment has a name in some Oriental tongue, it´s spam. Always.
Tancho, Calypso, Laurie, it seems that SMA has received all kinds of accolades in the past from Money, Fortune and a slew of other publications. I was not aware of T&L givint his rating in the past. For travelers, I think it is good. Maybe more world travelers will come? Hopefully.
Laurie, maybe next year?
Steve, we all look forward to your visit, eventually.
Felipe, I DO moderate and have in the past deleted these comments. But since there was English today and knew what they were saying, I allowed them. I don't know how to delete them now that they are there. Darn....Al, the lists are in the latest issue of Travel and Leisure, so I'm told.....
In Latin American cities, San Miguel beat out Buenos Aires. Let's get real: Travel & Leisure's poll is not exactly the most scientific. And don't you just suppose that advertising opps just may have had a role in all of this?
7 out of 10, jen
Well Jen, since I've not seen the magazine and seen what the criteria, I can't judge that. I, being non-cynical would like to think it had nothing to do with advertising apps as you state. I could see that in small rag sheets, but a publication of T&L's stature, I doubt it. Besides, I've never seen an ad for San Miguel in any publication in my life - just feature articles.
I live in Bangkok, and I'm very surprised by it being awarded the top city spot. The survey was completed before the civil unrest began in April, but nonetheless it is an odd choice, as a number of people have commented.
The city is overflowing with aspiring models and fashion designers which makes for an interesting city experience to say the least. בתי מלון בחו"ל
