Turning the Page to March!

It's always a fun experience to turn the page of the calendar (yes, I use a paper calendar) and see if there is a whole bunch of stuff coming up or a more tranquil month ahead.  Of course, it always seems it is going to be tranquil because there isn't much on it.  Somehow by the end of the month the pages are filled.  Aaargh.

It's truly shocking that it is March.  I was so looking forward to 2014 and somehow the last two months have been a blur of stuff that was not what I intended to do.  It is now behind me and hopefully, the fun stuff is ahead.

I returned to find that the brick wall had been erected.  Outside my bedroom window is still the beautiful stone wall but ABOVE that is a red brick wall that is about six feet higher then the stone wall!  It looks like the Berlin Wall.  I'm horrified and try not to look at it.

To add insult to injury the two story bourganvilla was ruthlessly hacked and very little is left!  I'm determined to cover the red brick wall at this juncture with the fast growing fig ivy vine.  I will nurture, feed, water and talk lovingly to it, if it will just cover that ugly thing in at least a year.........I did take a photo of it and when I find one of the before photos, I'll post it, possibly in the next blog.  You'll be as shocked as me.

I spent time on the roof terrace yesterday trimming away the dead branches.  In addition, a little pruning and while doing this I noticed that the china berry tree and the jacaranda are already starting to get leaves and blooms!  Oh my, it MUST be March.  It won't take but a couple of weeks with these 80 degree temps in the afternoons for everything to pop out and bloom.

It's a wonderful time of the year.  New beginnings - for the garden and, maybe,  even ME!

Total bummer about your view! Something seldom considered north of the border - the facts are that there simply are no rights to one's view in Mexico. The stories I could tell....

Sorry about the ugly wall, but I'm sure that you will soon have it covered with beautiful vegetation and flowers.

The jacarandas were already beginning to bloom when I was in Mexico City in February.

Calypso, I guess I've been spoiled. And, in the last three months, my neighbors to the south have added another story to their house which has blocked the south view of the sky and now this to the west! Luckily from the living room and the roof terrace, I still have a view but downstairs where my bedroom is....no mas. I think I'm more upset about them hacking down the bourganvilla (which would have hidden the wall) then anything. It was totally unnecessary.......

Bill, almost always if I drive south to Celaya, the jacarandas bloom earlier then here. They are lower in elevation and a bit warmer.
The view of SMA when all the jacarandas are blooming is a sea of lavender. Breathtaking.......

Luckily the SMA bugambilias respond well to being hacked to almost nothing! Once, while we were trying to sell our house, our handyman cut our huge plant so severely that I thought it would ruin our chances to sell -- it came back bigger and better and more showy than ever in very short order!!

Janet, I needed to read that! Thanks so much. I'm watching what's left leaf out by the hour! Keeping my fingers crossed.

I think I'll tentatively second what Janet said. Your bougainvilleas have well-developed root systems and will likely spring back. I'd fertilize and water a bit more than usual, and by the end of the summer, you should probably see some nice progress.

And this: and somehow the last two months have been a blur of stuff that was not what I intended to do. This is EXACTLY how I feel too! I'm hoping to soon join you in doing some fun stuff.

Best news I've heard all day that you are preparing to get yourself out of the frozen tundra!

I've been up on the roof terrace for about 3 hours reading, enjoying the warm breezes and saying, "Aaaahh"
The hummingbirds are zipping around as are all the songbirds. Could it get much better then this? (I can't see the brick wall from here, either) Ha.

I am positively VERDE with envy of your situation there on the roof terrace.
