Driving to the BEACH

We headed out driving to the beach, Melaque, early on the morning of January 2nd. It was a Sunday - a GOOD move. Not much traffic.

I LOVE driving on the highways in unpopulated areas. Like from here to Leon and then from Leon to Guadalajara. Guadalajara, NOT AT ALL. In fact I REALLY HATE attempting to follow the signage to head in the right direction to the beach through that city. It is always a kamakaze exercise.

But, once through Guadalajara, I begin to look forward to seeing the dry lake bed and then the volcanoes. This trip the cloud formations were magnificent. I like horizons and this drive affords one those large horizons like driving in West Texas.

The telltale sign that we were almost to our destination is when we come to the bridge in Ciyutlan and that picturesque white church is there like a beacon. Some day I''m going to take the time to stop and see the inside. I'm always so darn anxious to get to the "water and sand" that I can't imagine, at the time, stopping to see a church.

Blessed, blessed sun, sand and pina coladas - all for a month - it was WONDERFUL. More about that manana.

Well, for heaven's sake, it didn't publish the photo of the church. Geez, I don't know WHAT is going on with Picasa - the other day it published a photo I had not even highlighted.
Oh well, another day, another photo.

I have driven through Guadalajara only once, and that was just a couple of months ago, returning from a beach north of Puerta Vallarta. On the trip up, we circled south of Guadalajara, but on the trip back, I said, what the hey! Be brave.

And it was a relative piece of cake. The Calzada Lazaro Cardenas goes straight through the city. You don't even have to make a turn. Piece of cake.

Of course, I imagine, you were entering from another direction. Not good.

Beautiful country but do see if you can post the church.

Love the second photo! All the raw tequila just waiting to be processed!
The 100 proof vineyards of Jalisco!
Thanks!

Yes Lazaro Cardenas does go straight through the city - north to south - unfortunately I was going East to West. It is NOT good. The signage is HORRIBLE - it's not that there isn't signage, its just not where the turn is and sometimes it is exactly at the turn causing one to nearly wipe out the other cars........Glad it was a piece of cake for you Senor Felipe.

Yes, Dan I failed to mention the tequila fields. They are magnificently beautiful with that dusky grey-green color. They are all over the State of Jalisco....
Mexico is a beautiful country to drive in.......

After two years of living here, I finally got inside the church about a month ago. I have some great photographs. But they will have to wait until I wrap up my recent trips. I leave for Mexico City on Tuesday.

By the way, it was great to see you again. I hope to see you in San Miguel de Allende before too long.
