Margaritas, Madness and More

"Hi, my name is Babs, I can't drink tequila". Yup that's true. It makes me a notpretty sight. I discovered this quite by accident the first and second time I drank it.

I have avoided it like the plague since. This was brought back to me last night at a party where margaritas were being served and I respectfully declined. Someone pressed the issue of why I didn't want a margarita and just wouldn't drop the subject until I said "Because I become lewd and lacivious". Then I saw the "nasty gleam" in his eyes, but no more comment and the subject was dropped.

Here's the story. I was so young when my husband brought home tequila in the 70's and made margaritas for us while we were refinishing a piece of furniture. The children were off somewhere visiting grandparents or something. Two drinks and I was a mess. The furniture piece was not finished. Then the second time I had tequila I was at Club Med with a friend who had convinced me to go there. Bad decision, way out of my league. But a few tequila shots and I had the entire population of Club Med following me in a conga line throughout the dining room. Right before we had a food fight. I spent the next three or four days in my room recuperating.

Tequila has not touched my lips since then. I MUST be allergic or something. It's a mine field living in Mexico. Truly. And, when I was designing so many Tex Mex restaurants back in the 80's, that was a minefield too. I just walked around with a glass of water in a margarita glass out of fear and trepidation as to what would happen if I drank just one.

So now I have a new "friend" coming to visit. His drink of choice - a margarita. I have forewarned him that I don't drink tequila. He thinks it's funny - I don't. No tequila para mi......

Stick to your guns.

I think one discouraging event might be preventing you from a very enjoyable drink - perhaps exercising some moderation and living beyond a bad experience might be the approach with your visitor - or try making ONE before and see how you react. All things in moderation...

My, my, my, we have to get to the last paragraph before we see the meat of this matter.

A new friend? If you´ve mentioned this so openly before, I missed it.

My lord, woman, didn´t you learn your lesson with that last guy? Keep this to yourself until you are happily married, preferably for a year or two.

No, wait, forget that. The thrills and chills you provide with these adventures are great. Better than The Enquirer.

For us. Not necessarily for you.

Thanks Steve - I will!
Calypso, I would say it was two bad events....but who's counting? I can't stop with just one....that's the problem. That NEVER happens with any other liquor as I limit myself, always, to two drinks......hence y diagnosis of "allergic".
Well Felipe, just for YOUR titillating pleasure....

I understand completely. You have probably heard the expression 'Lovin' gin and fightin' Gin'
Though we may serve Gin in our home your host and hostess do not imbibe, in gin. When we have one drink we want another and two drinks is fightin' gin (not physical) but arguments hurt anyway.
You know what you can handle.

I agree with Steve...

Calypso...don't temp her.

Moderation and Tequila are often parted!

Trust yourself Babs and avoid tequila at all costs!!

No mistake it is nick named TA-KILL-YA !

Might be interesting to witness the personality that emerges while this "friend' is drinking tequila, and you are sipping your trusty Captain Morgan.

Have fun!

We will await your impressions!

I agree. Everyone is free to choose their poison of choice. There is absolutely no reason for you to switch. Unless you want to get lewd and lacivious!

Babs, after being on the Road for 7 weeks, can you be "our Man in the STreet" and tell us how is the town of San Miguel? Plenty of turistas? Lots of Change? Different? Same? Very hot?
Are you entering the BBQ competition for the 4th?

Charley - well being a "girly girl" I couldn't be your "man on the street" but I tried being your woman on the street. And, no, I'm not about to go stand in that treeless lot to cook anything. Rather I'll be at the Democrats event at the Real de Minas sipping a cool one and enjoying the treed lot.

I'm with you, I can't do tequila anymore! Lewd and lascivious is right, I call it a "clothing remover", a couple of margaritas and I was dancing on the bar. I stick to beer now...... :)

Yes Canuck, "clothing remover" is SO true! I don't want to scare the "new friend" senseless when he arrives..........
