Life's adventures can happen right at home!

Every time I cook for a relatively large group (12 this time), I treat it as an adventure. The reason being, I don't have an oven. I have a six-burner cooktop, a microwave and a toaster oven. One must see the humor in this, after eight years, to continue to do it.

So, the morning started, before having my coffee, with two things falling out of the pantry cabinet. An opened package of spaghetti noodles and an opened bag of coffee grounds..........neither should have been opened, but were. What a mess - I just wanted to walk away. Unfortunately when you live alone you (1) can't wait for someone else to clean it up, or (2) blame it on anyone but yourself. It's kinda like that scorpion story about a month and a half ago. Either I killed it or waited for it to find me...........you know the rest of THAT story.

So, that was two things. I'm superstitious enough to always wait for the third thing..........and yup, about three hours later, something flew into my ear. I stuck my fingernail in to get it out. Isn't that what you're supposed to do? And, the nail broke..........and was stuck in my ear. So I did what any somewhat intelligent person would do, wouldn't they? I turned my head on its side and hit myself on the other side. It worked and I laughed at how silly I probably looked.

The cooking has gone fine - so far I've completed two corn souffles, and au gratin potatoes.
Tomorrow I'll fix a big salad, maybe make a couple of pies and then cook the spiral ham in the microwave along with a brie encased in pastry. I think that should be enough.......oh and I have boiled shrimp. If you saw my tiny kitchen you would not think any of that would be possible.
But, as I said, I take it as an adventure....it's fun.

Wish you could be here BUT I wouldn't have any more chairs, ha!

I would have loved to have a picture of the finger nail sticking out of your ear. But my storyline would have been much different than yours.

You didn't finish the bug story. I am guessing it died of laughter.

Hey! Sounds pretty good. What time should we be there?

Richland - I would be afraid, very very afraid of YOUR storyline. You'll have to whisper it in my GOOD ear.......when we see each other again.
And Steve, go to The escapades @ Midnight on September 29, 2008 for the "bug" story, that wasn't a bug.
Bob, anytime!

I admire your courage in cooking for so many people! No more chairs? No problem. I'll sit on your lap and whisper in your good ear how I stupidly pierced my inner ear membrane!

Babs, you´re nuts. Now go buy an oven.

Well I PROMISE if I ever get all you bloggers here to San Miguel, I'll cook (or have it catered) and pray that we can dine in the gardens. I envision like a big Italian family, sitting around talking and eating and some drinking.....Wouldn't that be fun?
And Michael, believe me I would have put in a regular stove, except I rent this house. It is built into the side of the mountain. Where the oven would go is a boulder, yup a boulder. I have it covered up with a gathered curtain in front of the stove. My solution is to not do this very often.
Of course it's literally freezing here today so we'll all be crammed in here. The lettuce fields out of town had a freeze according to a friend. YUK AND I totally agree that I'm nuts!

There´s a boulder in your kitchen?? Okay, I retract my statement that you´re nuts. Clearly, there are larger issues at play.

Enjoy the day.

I'm new to posting on your blog, but have enjoyed your (mis)adventures. But now I feel compelled to
quit lurkng because you have clearly invited any blogger who ventures to San Miguel to a feast! We'll be there by December 1st. Seriously, we are about to embark on our first trip there, our little rental house awaits us. Perhaps we'll meet one day? Hope so.

Enjoy your dinner party. Sounds fun!

Gee, my memory isn't always up to par but I do seem to remember after the last big dinner you saying "I'm not doing this again." Or was that me? I think you just enjoy the challenge and it is impressive. Good for you. So you are doing all this before you leave?
