I wrote last Wednesday about the "six towel" night BUT I haven't written about the "BIG" roar.
I was awakened at about 3AM Thursday morning by the fact that my house was vibrating - I laid their for a couple of seconds to see if I was dreaming or if the house was actually vibrating - it WAS! Scared the heck out of me! It lasted for maybe 20 seconds and THEN I heard it, the big "Roar"...........of water coming down the canyon. OMG, it sounded like I needed an ark.
"They" had opened the dam above the canyon at the Botanical Gardens and it was rushing down the canyon, into the presa, over ALL the walls of the presa, into the stream and through the old absandoned hotel that was started in 1982 and never finished.
I have GREAT photos of this event on my @#$% digital camera but since I still haven't tried to download to the computer, you'll just have to take my word for it. (When I DO finally get these first photos downloaded there is some great stuff to share with you).
I tried at 3AM to see out the windows to see how much water was coming down the canyon, since in 1998 about 30 people died from drowning, downstream, but it was too dark to see. Needless to say, it was a sleepless night. The sight the next morning was awesome. Many, many Mexican families were standing out on the edge of the cliff watching in amazement, just as I was doing.
The "roar" has subsided and the water is now going through its proper opening, but I must say the power of that water is something to be reckoned with.............the bridge below the presa was closed for a day and I wonder what is happening in the countryside since we have had over 18 inches of rain in two months!
The "six towels" have been used, reused, dried and reused more then in any year I have ever been here. ENOUGH ALREADY..............

Babs -- Let me know f you have problems downloading the photographs. It should be very simple.
Steve - Problems? Heck I don't even know what hole in the back of the computer to put the plugs in and which plugs, etc. I have to wait til I get back from Xilitla when the woman who has a camera like mine can come over and show me, I think.....I don't have a laptop and the illustration in the book shows how to download on a laptop.Then someone told me I need to download Picasa cause it will file my photos - well, I LIKE my photos where I know right where to find them.......geez, this is scarier then you moving to Mexico!
Wow. The thought of the water rushing by sounds a bit frightening.
I have been reading about all the rain on the blogs. I feel lucky here on Pacific coast. Been pretty mild here except for that night I flew in during the thunder storm ...

Your camera probably came with a USB cable. One end will go in a jack in the camera, and one end will go into your computer. You can tell by looking at the shape of the cable ends and the shape of the jacks how it goes. You can't do it wrong, it will only fit where it belongs. Once it is plugged in, a window should open with a list of the pictures in the camera.

Did you say it flowed through the hotel? My friends rented the lavender house two doors from the hotel, but they haven't arrived for their year in SMA. That would have gotten their attention.
WE are pretty soggy here but so far no ROARS. God help us if Gustav heads our way. Reading your comments I think it is funny how the guys are all rushing in to
"fix it"...it's a guy thing.
Thanks Paul and Steve for your offer of help - Paul, you make it sound so simple! I think since I'm so focused on this tour thing I'll wait til I'm "calm". I'll probably laugh at how easy it is when I get it going......but right now my "plate is full". Cynthia, the water went through the side of the hotel by the "stream" which is now a raging river. No problems where your friends are staying - I drove down that street this morning.
It's a good thing the presa is about 100 feet below my street, at least!
My friends are on their way. Nice to hear they have a dry place to call home.
Good luck with the camera and have a great tour. Like the others here, I am anxious to see photos, but know what you mean about new cameras.
Just goes to show you can never have too many towels. I'm glad you're all right and your house wasn't swept away. Hope nobody else's was either. And I'm just one of the crowd waiting to see your pictures (hear us roar!)
I think the big roar would make me nervous. Hope your tour goes well and your towels dry out!!
Babs, where are you? you blog about the big roar and then you stop blogging for a long time. What happened?
