The lessons from Velcro have ended. She has gone to the "happy hunting ground in the sky". No way could she be helped...........she's out of her pain and illness.
The reality of it hit me today when I came back home. She was not waiting for me at the gate. That cat was so much like a dog. She knew the sound of my car and no matter, if she was in the schoolyard across the street or in the weeds of the canyon, she would make a beeline for the gate and be sitting there waiting for me by the time I got the car all parked out on the street.
It was a wakeup call. I sat down and reread a few of the many posts I have written elaborating on the silly tricks and weird characteristics of this cat that lived with me for nine years..........on the property for eleven!
The two posts that I enjoyed rereading the most were Lessons from Velcro on October 17, 2009 and More Lessons from Velcro on June 6, 2011. You could go and reread those if you're interested.
Another chapter of my life has ended. It is now the season of no more pets, period. It is just too darn hard when they leave.
Thanks for all your previous comments and concerns. I so appreciate each and every one of you for taking the time to write.
Velcro with her paw.............and I with my hand give you a "high five".

So Sorry
Sorry to read this. There is solace in the knowledge that she had a good quality life with you.
Peace.
Peter and Shelagh.
I am so sorry.
So sorry to hear the loss of a loyal companion.
Sending love and light...the same gifts that Velcro gave you so freely...abrazzos fuertes...
Oh Barbara, I am so very very sorry.
I am so sorry that you have lost a true friend and family member.
So sorry Barbara. Hugs.
You gave her your best, and she, hers. Morgen the Doberman and I send our condolences.
So sorry to hear this news Barbara. It's almost been 6 months for me being petless & it still is hard some days to realize they're gone. But, what great memories you'll always have of Velcro with these blog posts and your photographs. What a great life you two shared!
The messages from all of you are heart warming. The house sure is quiet tonight, but, it will pass and life will go on.
Thanks so much my dear friends.........
Awww... Barbara... I'm so sad for you. It's so tough to lose a friend. Like you, I live alone. Two years ago, one of my cats, Jason Walker, died, though I still have his sister here with me. Though she's independent, she's like Velcro in that she greets me whenever I come home. And often sits on my lap when I'm on the computer. I've often thought that my house would be very lonely without her.
I'm sorry for your loss. Velcro was a great cat, full of personality, and undoubtedly good company to boot.
I will drink a toast in her honor tonight.
Saludos y un fuerte abrazo,

Thanks Kim. Velcro was a unique cat, to put it mildly and continually surprised me.
I've always been a dog person so it took a lot of work from her to make me open to a cat..........although the kids had cats growing up, I was always partial to whatever dog we had.
I was quite shocked last night when I went to bed that I couldn't sleep and didn't sleep but maybe a couple of hours all night! The memories started flooding into my mind..........oh my. I don't know who I'll share my homemade blueberry muffins with now.....
DO drink a toast to Velcro and I might do the same. Thanks!
I am so sad for you. A toast to all cat friendships.

Thanks Jean. I appreciate your taking time to comment. Indeed, a toast!
Those fur kids get so deeply into our heart. Very sorry for your loss--but I truly believe we shall all be reunited with our loved ones some day--even the four-legged ones. Take care.
I am so, so sorry abut Velcro. Having lost a few dogs of old age, I feel your pain. After we put our 15 year old Maltese down a few years ago, I thought the same thing as you. No more dogs, it is just too hard when they leave! But I fell in love with a rescue dog, brought him home with me, and I cannot imagine life without him. Yes, it is hard when they leave, but they give you so very many years of joy, it is worth it to me. You never know Babs, you may change your mind someday :)

I completely missed this. I loved that cat. To Velcro -- a cat that stole my heart, and taught me to live in Mexico.
Aww, thanks Steve. She was quite a character, to put it mildly. It is WAY to quiet
around here..........
Sorry for your loss, what was the final prognosis? Sorry if I missed it in one of your posts. Btw I am reading your blogs backwards, so I might not have read it yet.
