TFT,LCD,MP3, BD-LIVE

What the heck is that, you might ask? Heck if I know. Truly, heck if I know. My CD player is "on the fritz". It's almost 20 years old. So I decided maybe it's time to get a new one. So I went online to check out models and stuff and was met with all this coded stuff. I almost got the feeling with all the new stuff out there that I was looking for some antique machine.......like an IBM Selectric typewriter or something.

Remember the blog I wrote back on May 7th? "Futzing at Fry's". It was deja vu. I could hardly read, much less understand, the copy on the sites that advertized electronics. I want a 5 CD changer, just like I have but a different brand. I want a SONY. Not too much to ask, I don't think. I actually, finally, found one at Amazon.

I'm driving up to the border mid-October with some friends for a little shopping and hopefully a day at South Padre.............and so I think I'll just order it from Amazon, have it sent to the hotel and be done with it. Anything more technical then that would be too much for me...........

I know all you guys out there are snickering at this. I admit I'm a techno novice. So, if there is a better 5 CD changer out there, quick, tell me because I spent about 2 hours yesterday on the internet and I don't want to spend anymore. I'm going to order this one, unless you tell me NO.

By the way, in plain English, would someone tell me what Blu-Ray is?

Don't feel bad, my electronic nemesis is a cell phone. You know, turn it on with a clearly marked button, dial the number you want, talk, hang-up with a clearly marked button and be done with it. I firmly believe in KISS, the old programmer acronym, Keep It Simple Stupid. I feel a rant coming on, so I will quit. Judy

It is overwhelming isn't it? Just ask your grandkids. They can tell you all about it. Maybe not Matilda. You'll need to give her another year or two and then she can be your tutor.

A Blu-Ray is an optical laser (reader/writer) of a short light frequency (read" smaller=more space) up to 5X as much as previous readers. It is like High Definition! (also... read; More EXpensive!!)
Anything to get into your wallet in the name of technology. Babs!
(Hunkpapa, living in a tee pee... but NO Electricity! Go Figure!)

New is "blue light laser"
Old is red/ultra-violet laser techno of a longer (light width)
(Now I have a headache!!) Tequila anyone?

Blu-Ray is a computer disc format - usually relating to video discs. The disks themselves are quite expensive.

I have totally gone away from CD's and DVD's. My thinking is you can get Tera byte (that is 1000 billion)bytes of storage for around $100 U.S. I am storing all my videos and music cd's - That much space is over 200 full length 4.7 gb DVD's or more CD's than you would have in a lifetime.

Get a good set of powered speakers and the outboard tera byte drive (get two) and play music forever through your computer do not waste your time, money and space with disks.

The radio in my Jetta actually plays memory sticks - 20 cd's or more on a 2 gb memory stick (under $10.00 US)and little to no space.

Honestly go digital!

I agree with you. Since I retired I rarely even use my cell phone. Texting...I have never done it!!

Thanks for checking out my blog. I have visited yours in the past and will put it on my regular list. How did you find my blog? I do hope one day our path will cross in San Miguel. Take care.

Babs, I made a mistake of buying a CD, DVD, everything format player when all I wanted was to play my music CDs. It was a super pain to just play music on it so I returned it for just a CD player.

Calypso is correct about loading up a hard drive with music but it is still great when someone hands you a CD to just play it or take in in the car.

Oh, fer crissakes, Babs, just head to Electra and buy a CD player. Don´t make a federal case out of it. They´ll have various options. It won´t cost that much, and they´ll all sound pretty much the same, which is to say great. They won´t to Calypso, but they will to you and me.

Blu-Ray is a new technology. Go into your bedroom and turn off the lights. Lie naked on the bed (alone or not), light a candle, some lavender incense, and then turn on the blu-ray. You´ll do it every night for the rest of your life. It affects the skin tone just a little bit, but in a good way. And parts of your body turn a bit blue, but in areas you can hide with careful placement of clothing. Very dramatic and sensual. My wife and I blu-ray every night with whipped cream.

I don´t know why these other folks did not explain this to you in a straightforward manner.

Oh gosh Judy, don't we wish they would keep it simple. It's like those favorite brands of shoes or other "garments" that we like, that we get used to and THEN they stop making them. WHY? It drives me nuts.
Oh heavens, Calypso, you are way over my head. If I did what you suggest, you would have to come live with me to make all that stuff work and I KNOW the Senora would NOT allow that!
Texting? I think they charge for that, so I don't do it. Sam and Bob I saw your comment on Billie's blog so I checked ya'll out. Cute.
Thanks NAVCAD, I'll check that out.
Felipe - You have to warn me before you write those kinds of things.......geez. The image is stuck in my mind....I think I better only buy the CD changer. It will be safer.....BUT you did make me laugh out loud. I don't think we have an Electra here. I've looked both here and in Celaya but couldn't find a 5 cd changer there. Blu-Ray huh, geez now I'm going to have to think about it. Can I just turn it on for the light? It seems a lava lamp would be cheaper.........and whip cream you say? Too much information........

Get yourself a IPOD then you can download music and never have to worry about CD's anymore, any your computer can play them too.
CD's are old technology...next thing you are going to tell me is that you have some 45's and 78's in your closet.....
I'll trade you some 8 track tapes, for your old CD's....
CD's will go the way of the 45 RPM records in less than 10 years, so just get a MP3 player, send all your CD's to Calypso, I am sure he would be happy to transfer them all to MP3 digital.

Wish I'd read your CD blog earlier. I have a Bose radio-CD player (they are available now with space for 5 CDs). The sound is spectacular (just like the ads say) on both radio and CDs. I was thinking of giving myself the multi-CD for Christmas but thanks to repairs from Hurricane Ike, a fizzled water heater and numerous other unexpected expenditures (some college money support for a grandson and granddaughter), I'll have to wait. Love your blogs.
